Rudolf Kloos's Introduction to Epigraphy of the Middle and Early Modern Ages is a fundamental survey manual on a field that is completely undernourished in Slovenia, both in terms of methodology and content. The work provides important methodological highlights that offer a valuable basis for work in epigraphy, and it is designed to be of help both to beginners encountering epigraphy for the first time, and to experienced specialists who wish to gain a slightly more thorough insight into the peculiarities of epigraphic (and printing) typographies, the characteristics of the handicraft processes that were part of the whole process of creating epigraphic monuments on various substrates, and the circumstances in which these monuments were created.
