Kritika črnskega uma is the title of the Slovenian translation of Critique of Black Reason, a book by Achille Mbembe originally published in France in 2013. The book presents a compelling analysis of racism and its oppressive practices, which did not cease to exist due to decolonisation, rather racism, as the institutional, intellectual, and societal mode of racialisation, continues to discriminate and heavily subjugate in the present. One of the major themes developed by Mbembe is that the category of Blackness (from the Atlantic slave trade on) is universalised. What we have today is that instead of more people being recognised as human beings like all others, they are, because of their skin, due to the biological fiction of race, categorised as less than human and thus excluded from the Western societies of Europe, the USA, and other parts of the world. Therefore, racism is not restricted to Black people, the people of Africa or African descent, which is the primary interest of the book, but also impacts refugees, hyper precarious workers, etc. The second topic addressed by Mbembe in the book is that while mapping the relations among colonialism, slavery, and financial capital it becomes evident that Europe is no longer the world’s centre of gravity.
