Kar sem obljubil, še nisem dal ('I haven’t yet delivered on what I promised') is the 59th volume in the Glasovi series, which features Slovenian folk narratives and personal recollections. It presents 833 folk narratives from the municipalities of Ribnica and Sodražica and the local community of Struge, most collected directly from local people and supplemented with archival and previously published material. The collection was initiated by Slavist Maruša But and continued by Domen Češarek, a librarian at Miklova hiša Library in Ribnica, who contributed the largest share of the material. Breda Lovšin, Ernesta Dejak Furlan and Ljoba Jenče also contributed. Particular attention is given to the mythological traditions of the Ribnica Valley, including tales of dragons, the wild man, supernatural beings, witches and the water spirit. The book also preserves accounts of traditional woodenware crafts, pottery, itinerant peddling, local history, customs, beliefs, dialect and everyday life between Mala gora and Velika gora. Humorous tales reflecting the distinctive speech and humour of the Ribnica region conclude the volume. The book makes an important contribution to Slovenia’s narrative heritage and is a valuable resource for research in folklore studies, ethnology, linguistics, historiography and other humanities disciplines.
