The seventeenth Pamflet argues that (Ur-)Fascism or Eternal Fascism knows no struggle for life, only “life for struggle”. This is (also) why fascists understand life as permanent warfare. Enemies must (and can) be defeated. In the essay, Umberto Eco draws on his own experience of growing up under Italian Fascism and on many years of studying fascism to analyse its fundamental features and traits. Only once we understand these manifestations and learn to recognise them can we resist and stop them.
