The guidebook is an original work that presents a hiking trail along the longest possible circle with its center in Ljubljana, but within the borders of the Republic of Slovenia. It was proposed by our colleague Metod Vojvoda (1937‒2021), who, as long as his health permitted, hiked several stages of the circle. The entire circle is 414.9 km long and has a total of around 21 km of ascents. The leader of the hike, Matej Gabrovec, divided the entire circuit into stages and figured out the logistics of public transport to the starting points of the stages and the return from the destinations to Ljubljana. The participants –members of the Ljubljana Geographical Society – completed the route between October 2016 and June 2021.

We wanted to adapt this guide to the idea of sustainable mobility by giving readers the opportunity to repeat hikes entirely by public transport. To this end, some of the hikes have been combined into two-day tours, and the individual stages indicate when public transport is available. The content is divided into 21 stages, five of which are two-day stages.

Each stage is presented according to a standardised scheme. On the left of introductory page there is a map of the stage on which, as in the description, individual points of interest or stops along the way are numbered. This is followed by a table with information on the distance and walking time between the individual points. It also indicates the type of route, whether it is marked, and whether it is part of a mountain hiking trail or a themed route. A short introduction is followed by a description of the mesoregion or subregion through which the stage runs. This is followed by the main section with a description of the route and the individual stage locations, and finally there are photos of individual stages.
