The book ('Kočevsko for the curious and enthusiasts') questions stereotypical views on historical, cultural, natural and other phenomena in the region, which today is roughly covered by the administrative areas of the municipalities of Kočevje, Kostel and Osilnica. The region owes its common name to its administration in feudal times. 22 authors have written 27 texts that, in the light of today's life, reveal lesser-known facts and draw fresh ideas about Kočevsko. Large primeval forests, a small population, and strong emigration flows add to the ingrained mystery and never possible completeness of its character. The book also draws attention to events when Kočevska was either a training ground for various authorities to implement reforms, or took the first step towards changes in the wider community on its own initiative, or nurtured symbolic narratives of moral strength, resilience, protection of the weak, and love.
Kočevsko for the curious and enthusiasts is the fourth publication in the series published by the ZRC SAZU Institute for Cultural and Memory Studies, and its contents overlap with the contents of previously published books. It contains eight illustrations.
